Software Kids is currently developing a sequel to their award-winning Time Engineers game. Time Engineers II will bridge the gap between rich educational content and today’s Real-Time 3D game technology to bring excitement and learning into the classroom!

Faced with various engineering challenges, students will be required to either enter variable data for mathematical simulations or engineer a design from prefabricated virtual models to be integrated into a larger virtual assembly.  They will witness both interactions with the virtual model and the environment with its fundamental laws of physics.

With this new approach, the process of learning does not stop at the creation of a static model but continues on to its real-world application by enhancing the students’ trial and error problem-solving skills with direct and instantaneous feedback.

In Time Engineers II, students and classrooms will be able to compete against each other through the use of the World Wide Web to achieve the goal of being the most efficient engineer.

To maintain the students’ interest, Time Engineers II will be produced with new 3D gaming technology, found in such products as Xbox® and Play Station®, allowing the student complete movement to travel through real-time rendered 3D environments. Time Engineers II offers maximum level of excitement while continuing to bridge the gap between technology, entertainment, and learning.

As an example of the application of this technique, a learning scenario may include a student finding his way through the game to an underground subway car.  The car has stopped due to a broken gear in its drive train. Filled with concerned passengers, the student must open the gear compartment and quickly diagnose the problem.

The student may be assisted by the Time Engineer Taskforce Commander to design a gear with the proper specifications to replace the broken part. Once the student has designed the gear based on dimensions, type of material, and manufacturing process he can now replace the damaged gear with the new part. If the part was designed correctly, the subway car would then move and the student would be showered with praise from the elated passengers and Taskforce Commander.

There are an infinite number of intriguing scenarios that Software Kids will develop to reinforce all engineering disciplines, such as the design and integration of structures in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering.
